Why I Am So Passionate About Safe Rx And Its Mission – Paul Suchoski, Investor and COO of Safe Rx.
I am 57 years old and I have four amazing children and one incredible grandson. I have been very fortunate that my children have never experienced major medical trauma and have not been tempted to experiment with drugs. Yes, there have been broken limbs and stitches but nothing that severely impacted my family. Thank GOD!!
Unfortunately, I have friends that have not been as fortunate. Two close business colleagues have sons in their twenties who have been seriously impacted by opioid addictions. In both cases, the problem started with pilfering prescription painkillers when the boys were teenagers and then progressed to heroin and fentanyl. Both young men have been in and out of jail numerous times for stealing to support their addiction. Both families have been severely traumatized – how do you respond when your child steals from you and lies to you in order to support substance abuse? Personally, I don’t know what I would do and I am incredibly thankful to have been spared having to deal with this problem personally.
On a separate note, I was very close to having to deal with a pediatric poisoning related to over-the-counter medication. Two summers ago, my neighbors came over to spend time with my wife and me. They have two young children including an inquisitive 4-year old boy named Mac. We were sitting in the living room when we suddenly realized that Mac wasn’t there. By chance, I went back to our bedroom and found Mac next to my bed stand where I have a bottle of Benadryl – I take two every night to help me sleep. Somehow Mac had opened the child-resistant bottle and he had 20 or 30 pills in his mouth. Thank goodness, we were able to get the medicine out of his mouth before he swallowed it, sparing us an emergency room visit, if not worse.
Moving on to Safe Rx… I was first exposed to Safe Rx and the Company’s CEO Milton Cohen eighteen months ago. I was blown away by the Company’s Locking Prescription Vials as well as Milton’s passion for the Company and its mission. Having friends that have been touched by both opioid addiction and a near pediatric poisoning, I could not believe that there was such a simple, inexpensive solution to significantly reduce teen pilfering and virtually eliminate pediatric poisonings due to accidental ingestion of medicine. I had to become involved!
I am now an investor in the company as well as its Chief Operating Officer, working ten hour days to help us solve two critically important public health concerns. I truly believe that we can make the world a much safer place for our children and young adults.
